Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

Service/Procedure Summary

This operation opens narrowed or blocked blood vessels that supply blood to the heart. For this procedure a catheter with a small balloon tip is inserted into a narrow or blocked artery to widen it and restore blood flow. A 'stent', which is a small metal mesh tube, is often inserted to keep the artery open.
