Waiting for Surgery

Have you spoken to your surgeon about the wait time for surgery but still have questions or concerns? Every hospital has someone you can call or email about wait time issues that have not been addressed by your surgeon. Please find the appropriate contact for your hospital in the list below. You should also advise your family doctor of any change in your health condition while waiting for surgery.

Please note that Nova Scotia’s electronic referral model for surgery can help you stay on top of your referral status. This model launched in March 2023 and beginning April 1, 2024, primary care providers will be required to use this tool to send referrals for surgical consults. If your primary care provider is using eReferrals you can supply your email address at the time of your referral. This will allow you to get automatic updates on your referral, including when it is sent, when an anticipated wait time to your appointment is added and when your appointment is booked of changed.
